WHAT ARE AREA FORUMS?

To help you we have put together some Frequently Asked Questions, below, to give you an insight into how the Forums work and hopefully to encourage you to come along and participate in shaping future local services and helping us with consultation on important local issues.

You will find the Agenda, Newsletter and Minutes of each Area Forum meeting below - just scroll down.

FORUM OVERVIEW
These are meetings between the three tiers of local government (Parish/Town, District and County Council) to improve how we talk and work togehter, they replace the Area Committees of the past.

They are designed to make sure that all parishes have and equal chance to get involved and voice there opinions.

They will result in real changes to the way we work together now and in the future

THE GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS COVERED?
There are four Area Forums. The Area Forum map (397 KB) identifies which parishes are within which Forum boundary.

We know that some parishes feel a stronger tie to one area rather than another, they may select which Forum they wish to attend.

Each Forum is geographically centred around the market towns of Fakenham & Wells, Sheringham, Holt & Cromer, North Walsham & Stalham.

These areas were agreed between the councils earlier in the year. Parishes were grouped together based on known natural communities and catchment areas.

The CONSULTATION CALENDAR
Please click The Consultation Calendar (Word 98 kb) for 2006-2007 which has been discussed at the Round Two Forums. This document assists Parish Councils to consider in advance and formulate decisions to put forward when being consulted.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

Q1: Can anyone attend an Area Forum?

The meetings are open to any

  • parish clerk
  • parish councillor
  • town councillor
  • district councillor
  • & county councillor

We need more to attend to ensure the voices of the outlying parishes are heard

Q2: When and Where do the Forum meetings take place?

They meet three times a year with a fourth joint meeting, attended by members from across the whole district, planned in the late summer

We hold Forum meetings in very local venues, suggested by the parish representatives themselves, to ensure they are as accessible as possible.

Q3: So how do the Forums work?

Priority issues for exploration were selected by the Parishes themselves and these range from Planning issues to Litter, Anti-social Behaviour and Flooding.

These topics were explored at the First Round of meetings and issues for action were identified

We use different ways of working to identify issues. This can range from group work around flip charts to mind mapping. Its all about adding interest to what we do and doing it in a relaxed and enjoyable way to get the very best out of our meetings

  • Some parishes wanted training on planning issues so they can improve their response to any planning applications submitted
  • Other parishes wanted more action taken on dog fouling and overflowing bins

Where the Council can respond it will.

Where we can't because of constraints these will be clearly communicated to the Parishes through the Forums

Q4: Who attends from District & County Council?

The relevant Officer from County and District Council will be asked to attend your Forum to answer the questions and issues you have raised.
